Nepal Scholarships

Nepal has one of the lowest literacy rates in the world, and most of the country lives in extreme poverty. Through a scholarship program, the poorest of the poor have the opportunity to continue their schooling to help break the cycle of poverty for them and their families.

Coming from a lifetime of social discrimination and generations of extreme poverty, few of these children are ever able to attain enough education to create a sustainable lifestyle.

The scholarships are given to those who are on the verge of leaving the school. With the support of a CHOICE Nepal scholarship, these students can afford to stop working and attend school.

Students apply for the scholarship and are selected based on grades, behavior, and financial need. Many of these students go on to careers that provide services, furthering the development of their own community as well as improving their own lives.

In other areas of the country, CHOICE Nepal provides scholarships at three levels:

  1. High School
  2. College/Nursing Studies
  3. Skill Development Training

High school scholarships are focused on intelligent students who can't afford to buy school uniforms, stationeries, and pay tuition fees and as a result are at the verge of dropping out schools.

Nursing scholarships provide partial tuition fees or college level studies. Rural poor but intelligent students who agree to contribute certain time after graduation in serving in rural areas are supported through this Nursing Scholarship program.

Skills development scholarships are aimed at enabling those who could not graduate from a high school to create their own jobs in the market with the skill, knowledge, and attitude they have acquired during the training.

“All of these students become examples for other children that a child who completes school can make a difference in their community in particular, and in society at large.” –Kiran Neupane, CHOICE Director in Nepal
