CHOICE builds for humanity
by Roger Brown

Life changing experience

The 1997 trip to Kenya was no ordinary trip. Bruce McMullin and his family spent 10 days working side-by-side with Kenyan villagers building a two-room school and a tiny medical clinic. The experience for the real estate developer was life changing.

"It is through the sweat and tears of building schools and clinics that have given me an awareness of CHOICE's Mission." said Bruce McMullin, now Chairman of the Kenya Area Projects. "What my family and I brought back from Kenya," says McMullin, "you cannot put in a photo album or use as a mantelpiece. We brought back an awareness that touched our hearts." McMullin's awareness and concern for the people of Kenya turned into a 50,000 dollar donation to CHOICE Humanitarian.

In a subdivision along the southeastern bench of Salt Lake City, Utah a beautiful home was constructed and sold to David and Carolee Wallace. With special thanks to the efforts of many local subcontractors organized by McMullin, the work took just over four months from the time the first stakes were plotted, to the point of applying the final touches of paint and installing the last light bulb.

50,000 dollars in proceeds

COPY: On March 21, 2001 a check for 50,000 dollars was presented by Bruce McMullin to CHOICE Humanitarian. The donation resulted from proceeds from the sale of the home, a home built with contributions of volunteer labor and materials. Alan Dayton, Deputy Mayor of Salt Lake County remarked, "I am very impressed with CHOICE Humanitarian and the use of American resources to help our neighbors in other parts of the world."

Draper City Councilman Colbert, who lives in the neighborhood of the newly constructed home, described his appreciation for the effort. "CHOICE allows you to participate in something you believe in. This is an efficient and effective organization. It gives us all an opportunity to benefit the lives of others thousands of miles away. I hope that more individuals and businesses will have the determination to get involved."

The 50,000 dollar donation will be used to further CHOICE Humanitarian projects in Kenya.
