NEPAL EXPEDITION

Nov 5 - 12 2016

Nestled between China and India in southern Asia, Nepal boasts the greatest altitude variation on earth. From sea-level lowlands to towering Himalayan peaks, this charming nation attracts world travelers with its majestic landscapes, vibrant traditions, and warm embraces of spirited Nepalese natives.


Friday, Nov 4th USA to Kathmandu

  • Participants must arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) in Kathmandu before 11pm. Please do not plan to arrive a day early, reserve personal travel for after the expedition if possible.

  • Airport pick-up and transportation to Shambala Hotel will be provided for overnight accommodations. 

Saturday, Nov 5th Kathmandu to Riverside

  • Official expedition activities begin with breakfast and the option to attend local LDS services or explore Kathmandu.

  • After lunch, group transportation will be provided from Kathmandu to Riverside Springs Resort (3-hour distance) for overnight accommodations (shared Double Rooms). Staff and expedition leaders will provide a group orientation in the evening to discuss trip details. Dinner will be provided.


Sunday, Nov 6th Riverside to Lamjung

  • Breakfast served at hotel. Group transportation will then be provided to the developing region of Lamjung (6-hour distance). Lunch will be provided. Casual hike might be required before participants arrive to a gracious village to be greeted with a warm welcome celebration. Dinner will be served. Time available to unpack, rest, and interact with local residents. Overnight accommodations provided in the village.

Monday, Nov 7th - Thursday, Nov 10th Lamjung

  • Breakfast served in village. Construction projects and development initiatives will be scheduled throughout the week as part of the post-earthquake rebuilding efforts. Participants will be working hand-in-hand with families on village- driven programs. Lunch will be served in the afternoons with a brief rest provided. Dinner will be served in the evenings. Village activities and in-depth discussions will be provided each night to promote powerful intercultural exchanges between participants and local residents. Overnight accommodations provided in the village.

Friday, Nov 11th Lamjung to Kathmandu

  • Breakfast served in village. Ceremonious village farewell will be scheduled in the morning. Group bus transportation will then be provided back to Kathmandu (6-hour distance). Lunch will be provided. Arrive to Kathmandu in the late afternoon and check-in to Shambala Hotel for overnight accommodations. Group dinner will be scheduled in the evening to conclude the expedition and discuss overall impressions with fellow participants. Overnight at hotel.

Saturday, Nov 12th Kathmandu to USA

  • Breakfast served at hotel. Possible time at leisure to explore Kathmandu or take the 1 hr Everest flight tour (see tour add-on). This bustling capital of Nepal, part of a regional UNESCO World Heritage Site, dates back to ancient times when first settled along the trade route to Tibet (approx 400 AD). The cosmopolitan culture of Kathmandu radiates a unique spirit of Hindu and Buddhism evident in surrounding temples and monuments. A rich history of wars and dynasties strengthens the mystical charm that allures travelers here. *transportation will be provided to Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) for flight departures.

$2195 per person (airfare not included) / $1995 per student (airfare not included)

*rates include hotel accommodations, certified group leaders, village lodging, village meals, and local transportation.

A significant portion of each expedition fee is utilized for rural village development: project costs, construction materials, leadership building, and other elements leading to high-impact sustainable development.


OPTIONAL - Everest Flight + Pokhara Tour Add-ons Nov 12-16 2016

Saturday, Nov 12 Early Morning Everest Flight ($250) Note: Dependent on Safe Weather Conditions

  • This option is available to all expedition participants, regardless of participation in the full extended tour and has a cost of $250/person

  • Participants will be picked up from Shambala Hotel at 5am and transported to the airport for a 1 hour flight tour that circles Everest and the surrounding ranges. Participants will return to Shambala Hotel by 9 am. Time to join extended tour or depart for USA.


Saturday, Nov 12 Kathmandu/Pokhara Tour ($650)

  • Breakfast and rest followed by an afternoon exploring the sites and sounds of Kathmandu. This bustling capital of Nepal, part of a regional UNESCO World Heritage Site, dates back to ancient times when first settled along the trade route to Tibet (approx 400 AD). The cosmopolitan culture of Kathmandu radiates a unique spirit of Hindu and Buddhism evident in surrounding temples and monuments.

  • Time for leisurely dinner and personal time followed by another night at Shambala Hotel.


Sunday, Nov 13th Flight to Pokhara

  • Breakfast and rest followed by transfer to airport for 30 min flight to Pokhara. Pokhara is located in the mid west of Nepal and the center of adventure and culture. Due to its stunningly beautiful natural setting and it’s base for trekking in the Annapurna region, Pokhara is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Nepal after Kathmandu. It is the starting point for many of Nepal’s most popular trekking and rafting destinations. The majority of the people of Pokhara are Brahmins and Chettris from Kathmandu and Tibetan settlers).

  • Arrive and check into Hotel City Inn . Rest and lunch will lead to a 1- hour boat tour on Fewa Lake with a Vvsit to the Barahi Temple. Free time at lake side followed by dinner.


Monday, Nov 14th Day in Pokhara

  • Early morning sunrise tour of Annapurna ranges including Fishtail Mountain, and Dhaula Giri Mountain followed by a visit to Bindabasini Temple.

  • Breakfast at hotel followed by an educational site visit to the Tibetan Refugee Camp, Gupteshwor Cave & Devi’s fall and International Mountain Museum. Lunch to follow.

  • After a visit to the world peace temple on the top of the hill behind Fewa Lake, there is free time for rest and an evening dinner. 


Tuesday, Nov 15th Morning Pokhara/Flight to Kathmandu

  • Breakfast followed by time to explore local markets. Early afternoon return flight to Kathmandu and Hotel Shambala.

  • Leisurely evening to explore/shop/rest. Dinner and group farewells.


Wednesday, Nov 16th Return to USA

  • Breakfast served at hotel. Possibly time to explore Kathmandu prior to departure flight at your desired time. Transportation provided to Airport.
