Why does CHOICE exist?
According to the United Nations Human Development Report 2001:
  • 1.2 billion people live on less than one dollar a day and 2.8 billion live on less than two dollars a day
  • 2.4 billion people lack access to basic sanitation
  • 11 million children under age five die each year from preventable causes
  • 850 million people are illiterate
Yet despite these staggering statistics, the U.S. has been spending less and less on foreign aid. According to the Christian Science Monitor writer David Francis, April 1, 2002:
  • If President Bush's new plan to increase foreign aid succeeds, in 2006 the U.S. will still only spend 0.73% of its budget on helping the world's poor.
  • This share of the U.S. budget will still be lower than in almost any year from the end of World War II through the mid-1990s.

Why would I want to contribute to CHOICE rather than another organization?
Compared to most nonprofit organizations, more of every dollar you donate to us will directly go to the field where it can make a difference.

Your money is leveraged with village labor and government support.

Why help the rural instead of the urban poor?
Three-quarters of the 1.2 billion people living in acute poverty work and live in rural areas.

Persistently high levels of rural poverty, with or without economic growth, have led to rapid population growth and migration to urban cities.

Rural poverty accounts for almost 63 percent of poverty worldwide.

Why help foreign countries when the U.S. has so much need?
As President Bush recently stated, “We fight against poverty because hope is an answer to terror.”

President Bush has also urged Americans to give more and to “share our wealth” with the poorest of the poor throughout the world.

Such giving is both “the history of our country and the calling of our times," President Bush says.

How do I know where my money goes?
We accept restricted contributions but we especially appreciate unrestricted contributions that benefit lower profile projects. Basically, we use your money where it is needed most.

Is CHOICE affiliated with any religious organization(s)?
CHOICE Humanitarian has established itself operationally as a nondenominational, nonpolitical organization. Our organizational standing depends on the fact that we have no political or religious agendas. Our only agenda is humanitarian.

We ask expedition members to conduct themselves as humanitarian ambassadors, free from religious or even political agendas. This is necessary to maintain the trust CHOICE has established for itself. The sole objective of our involvement with villagers is to help them find lasting solutions to the hardships of poverty.
